This site is designed to aid member museums and others interested in railway preservation.

Railways played a key role in the development of communities across the United States and Canada. Railway museums large and small across North America interpret this exciting and pivotal history. And the Association of Railway Museums helps these museums exchange information with each other and improve professional standards.

CONFERENCE NEWS

The first ATRRM SPRING CONFERENCE was a wonderfully successful event. Hosted by the Georgia State Railroad Museum in Savannah, GA March 21 - 23, nearly 50 association members and guests enjoyed great seminars, tours, receptions, and networking opportunities in a beautiful, historic city.

Those arriving early had a chance to tour the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum while Board members worked on their 2013 strategic plan. The conference kicked off with a beautiful reception in the Savannah Visitors Center hosted by McCarthy Rail Insurance. This was a time to visit with friends and to catch up on each others' museums and railroads.

We had a chance to learn about the Georgia State Railroad Museum, how it came to be and how it was restored. Then we toured the shops and took a ride on the 1913 ALCO 0-4-0 Switcher Steam locomotive. Some of us even got to man the Engineer's seat! We learned about the restored streetcar in Savannah and took a backshop tour.

The closing event was a fabulous bus tour of Savannah and former Central of Georgia lines and a dinner at Old Fort Jackson, complete with the firing of a cannon and gun salute by civil war period-dressed soldiers.

Our thanks to our hosts, especially Terry Koller and his staff, and to our sponsors: McRail Insurance, Steam Operations Corporation, Precision Locomotive Services, Stone Consulting, and HMBD Insurance.

MEMBERS!

Great News for ARM and TRAIN Members!

At the Annual Meetings of ARM and TRAIN, held during the Annual Conference, members voted overwhelmingly to merge the two associations.  This will enable the new organization to provide more member benefits for a lower cost in most cases.

No renewal notices will be mailed until July of this year.  Your anniversary date will remain the same.

Don Evans, a professional strategic planner and member of both organizations, has guided us through the merger process, first discovering the wisdom of such a merger and then helping us determine the best path to take.  If you would like to see Don's presentation to the members at the Annual Meeting, please click here.

FOR YOUR MUSEUM

Many ARM members provide visitors with a list of fellow member museums offering discounts.  This is a great way to enhance your visitors' experience and to encourage the public to visit railway museums wherever they go.
